August Newsletter

Greetings Soft Landing!

It’s just a few short weeks before we get to see each other on playa!
This email contains a number of important updates and reminders – please take a moment to pause your playa-preparation and review.   Also, keep a look out for an email with arrival instructions that will come in a few weeks.

URGENT:  Call for Strike Volunteers

All hands on deck!  Strike (camp teardown) is essential to return the Playa to its natural state and to ready our infrastructure for future years.  It’s a tremendous gift to Soft Landing, the Burning Man community, and the playa itself.   Volunteers who stay through Tuesday will receive

  • $100 refund on camp dues

  • Access to Steward’s Sale (early!) tickets for the 2025 Burn

  • A very quick exodus

  • The love, admiration, respect, and thanks of our entire camp! <3

Strike (and shifts) follow the below timeline:

  • Sunday, 9/1 (Temple Burn):   12 pm - 6 pm (6h)

  • Monday, 9/2  9 am - 3 pm (6h) and 2 pm - 8pm (6h)

  • Tuesday, 9/3:  9am - 2 pm (5h)

Please sign up here if you are interested!  Feel free to reach out with questions to campsoftlanding@gmail.com

Required:  Pre-Playa Planning & Acculturation Discussion

In order to build a safe and supportive community at Soft Landing, all new campers and SL veterans will participate in a pre-playa acculturation *and* consent conversation. Below are different session options; please choose the one most convenient for you and mark your calendars now!

  • August 8 (Thursday):  6:00 p.m. Pacific

  • August 11 (Sunday):  12:00 noon Pacific

Supper Club

Think you'll get hungry at Burning Man?  Sign up for Supper Club!  Most nights you won't have to worry about cooking dinner: you just cook for your club one night during the week.  Our main club is called House Stark and features vegan and gluten free food as well as fascinating dinner discussions.  With interest, we can have an omnivore option that can include any meal ingredients except cashews or pistachios:).  Eat with us at the Burn!

Tired of Traveling with Stuff?

Roo is looking to gauge interest in individuals willing to pay for off-playa storage near the burn, e.g. for a decorated bicycle and/or bins which are not used outside the burn.  If there is sufficient interest from people, we may try to get a container for camp, but even if there are a few people, Roo is planning to get  a storage unit in Fernley/Fallon.  Please email roo@gluelogic.com if interested.

Shifts and Dues:

If you haven’t already, please sign up for shifts and pay your camp dues.  There are a few easy steps in this process:

  1. Review the “Information Page” on our website.  Even if you have camped with Soft Landing in the past, there are always new changes and reminders worth reviewing.

  2. Sign Up for Shifts!

  3. Pay Camp Dues! This year, the dues structure is comprised of these three options:

  4. 1 shift and $450

  5. 2 shifts and $250

  6. 3 shifts and $150
